140 Park Lane, London

Working from within the existing retained building, we excavated to -8m whilst the demolition was in progress. Making structural modifications to the existing basement we erected a 9 storey part Post Tensioned RC frame incorporating a swimming pool into the basement. The new frame was to take the weight of the existing structure; we installed a series of jacks to progressively shift the loads when the frame had gained strength this also helped control movement & settlement. In effect the structure was held in cantilever and lowered onto the new load bearing frame. This of course was carried out within the restraints imposed by a busy city centre location.

41 Lothbury, London

We were initially engaged to carry a temporary and enabling works package that consisted of underpinning, façade retention and structural modifications to the various levels of basement. A major factor here is that the street level floor is a grade II listed banking hall, which was to retain it's original features. Following on from this package we took on all of the structural modifications and insitu RC works and managed a complex interface with the steel Frame and M&E contractors.

Westwood, Thanet

We undertook several works packages including one of the most important soil stabilisation packages carried out in the region. We treated over 70,000 m2 of material often to a depth of 1m. Incorporated into the stabilised soil were extensive RC foundations and waterproof pits. This process gave considerable programme and cost advantages and made the construction of 20,000 m2 of ground slabs and over 2km of drainage much more efficient. The external works also boasts 26,000 m2 of macadam and almost 20,000 m2 of hard paving. We are particularly proud of the 15m granite compass and stainless steel sundial which is an architectural feature on this, which is one of the largest shopping centres in the area.

Laban Center, Deptford

We were employed to deliver the sub-structure and structural frame of this impressive award winning dance centre. The insitu RC sloping roof is of particular note, and presented some logistical challenges to its' construction. This landmark building will serve to demonstrate the Centre's enduring local, national and international presence, and it has been identified as the focal point for the social and physical regeneration of Deptford and the surrounding area. It will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the training and professional development of dance artists and scholars, as well as offering associated training and educational opportunities to organisations and individuals residing in the area. DEFRA VLA

This was a return to the research centre in Weybridge, and we were engaged to construct the sub and super structures for the new research laboratories. The foundations were traditional pile caps and ground beams, with an element of specialist drainage. The super structure is an RC frame, to 4 storeys with a very interesting waffle slab detail at 2nd floor. Co-ordination issues were very important, owing to the high level of IT and M & E installations

Triton Square, Euston London

Construction of a series new publicly accessed squares, one of which is built off an existing Podium slab. This was cut away in areas to form atria and rc constructed, granite clad folding lawns. In addition is the construction of a feature white RC planter raised some 3m above the ground and supported on stainless steel needle coloumns. The paved areas are specialist waterproofing systems, over laid with specially imported Chinese granite, which has a matrix of stainless steel channels to house fibre optic lighting that projects light from the joints of the paving up and onto the glass clad buildings. The M&E, including irrigation systems are also within our scope of works. Safety was paramount as all areas were kept accessable to the public.

Clacton Schools PFi, Clacton

Work at Clacton County High & Bishops Park to date has involved construction within the heart of the existing buildings to form a new dining and social area. This has required erection of a steel frame to support the enclosing roof structure within a confined courtyard area. At the same time construction of the new gymnasium facility has progressed, which followed the demolition of the temporary sixth form block and a stair tower which occupied part of the new gymnasium footprint.

Huntley Street, London WC1

Our package included the basement excavation which had a considerable temporary works element as we were working over the operational basement of the existing hospital and in addition we had to support the existing Chenies Mews and underground services that was on the boundary. Cast Iron drainage was suspended through a 1400mm deep basement raft slab. The 33m high core was jumped using our stock Peri equipment and superstructures consisted of structural toppings and column encasements to the steel frame and precast floors. The site had all the usual constraints of a city centre location and traffic management.

Frog Island, Essex

This new state of the art Mechanical and Biological Treatment Facility is one of the first to come on line in the UK. The facility will process up to 180,000 tonnes of municipal waste by seperating out recyclable components then shredding & drying the remaining refuse. Our package was to deliver the groundworks package of all piled foundations, beams, slabs and special concrete substructures, all carried out in poor ground with tidal groundwater conditions. The drainage design is of particular note as it contained some large diameter fusion pipework and some very precise interface with M&E contractors.

Holiday Inn Express, Brentford

We were employed to construct the Basement substructure, which consisted of Sheet piled walls lined with concrete on a piled raft foundation. We had full responsibility for the temporary works and waterproofing. This was a interesting challenge as the site was bounded on three sides by the Grand Union Canal. The 5 storey super structure concrete frame was self finished for direct decoration.

Big Yellow Storage Finchley and Norwood

We were employed to excavate and form the substructures for both of these public access storage centres. The basements included all temporary works and design, which was critical as the small footprints required minimal struts & props so as not to impede construction of the permanent works. We designed a sheet pile solution with a capping beam, which worked well even in the close proximity of adjacent buildings. Both basements were watertight construction using Caltite & Volclay, which form the climate controlled storage areas.

UEL Knowledge Dock Docklands Campus

We carried out both the enabling works, groundworks, insitu RC & external works packages on this phase of UEL development. The enabling works comprised a bulk excavation and a stabilised platform, forming part of the permanent works and pile mat. The ground work formed a complex matrix of ground beams, wrapped in several layers of insulation and waterproofing, which is ideally suited for use in a stabilised platform. Particular attention had to be paid to environmental issues as we were working dock-side of the Royal Dock and almost under the flight path of planes out of City Airport.

Aviator Park Addlestone

We developed the substructure design for 101000 square foot high quality offices, in conjunction with our sister company O’Keefe Soil Remediation. We provided a complete substructure design solution in a wet and contaminated site. By using stabilisation as a solution we were able to minimise the traffic impact locally, with a reduction of some 2-3000 traffic movements. The final design incorporated the ground slabs into a stabilised platform which doubled as pile mats and dry working platforms
